Contemptible Quickies 9: Adam Lambert by Gene Lalor
“It’s like that high school mentality: If you’re looking and putting energy into it, something about it is fascinating you, whether you like to admit it or not. I got your attention, that’s why you’re spewing negative hate at me, so I’m doing something right.”
Those are the considered and pithy words of Adam Lambert, self-outed “American Idol” loser and homoerotic performer on last year’s American Music Awards who outraged millions of prime time viewers by engaging in explicit homosexual acts onstage. He later apologized for his sickening conduct but apparently has now withdrawn that apology.

Let’s do a bit of pop analysis of his braggadochio above.
First, Lambert is clearly denigrating, putting down, any and all who found his graphic performance repugnant. We’re acting like high schoolers, almost infantile, by finding his conduct reprehensible, especially since the AMA was telecast at 8 PM, EDT when many high school kids were in the viewing audience.
As I’ve often said, homosexuals are always recruiting and Lambert is an excellent example.
Second, we’re not fascinated nearly as much as we are, and were, amazed at his actions and blatant show of contempt for the sensibilities of his unsuspecting audience. We may be “putting energy into” looking at his gay antics but only insofar as we may be curious about a bizarre freak show.
Lambert is an example of this generation’s 500 pound bearded lady or 3-headed dog.
He did get our attention, the same way a grotesque highway accident attracts morbid rubbernecking. As with laughing at him not with him, we’re marvelling not at his talent but at his chutzpa in performing acts live onstage that are normally reserved for sleazey gay bars and the filthy alleyways behind them.
Also, I wish Lambert would explain how we norms are “spewing negative hate” by holding him in contempt: Only Icelandic volcanoes and vile excuses for humans “spew” and, Adam, you’re no volcano.
Finally, Mr. Lambert, please define the difference between “negative hate” and the assumed opposite, positive hate. You’re not doing anything “right” except in the eyes of your fellow homosexuals and Lady Gaga.
However, do get back to us if you want to come clean on how many high school groupies you’ve recruited since your AMA debacle.
